If you’ve been in Japan a while, you know that Seijin Shiki (成人式) or Coming of Age Day, is celebrated on January 8th in honor of those turning 20 the previous year. On the next Seijin Shiki, this coming January, Hitomi Dental Office will be closed, but I will not just be relaxing at home. That’s because it will be a very special day for me as my daughter, Misumi, will celebrate her “Coming of Age.” Recently she was photographed in the same kimono I wore when I turned twenty.
